What is Ghusl?
Ghusl is the full-body ritual purification required after states of major impurity, such as post-marital relations or the end of a woman's menstrual cycle. Without a valid Ghusl, a Muslim cannot perform Salah or touch the Quran.
The 3 Fara'id (Obligatory Acts) of Ghusl
For a Ghusl to be considered valid in Islamic jurisprudence, three strict conditions must be met:
1. Rinsing the Mouth: Water must reach every part of the inner mouth.
2. Rinsing the Nose: Water must be sniffed up into the nostrils up to the soft bone.
3. Washing the Entire Body: Water must flow over every single part of the body, leaving not even a hair's breadth dry.
The Sunnah Method of Ghusl
To gain maximum reward, it is best to perform Ghusl exactly as the Prophet (PBUH) did. The sequence is as follows:
1. Make the intention (Niyyah) in your heart.
2. Wash both hands up to the wrists.
3. Wash the private parts thoroughly.
4. Perform a complete Wudu (just like the one for prayer).
5. Pour water over the head three times, ensuring water reaches the roots of the hair.
6. Pour water over the right side of the body, then the left side, ensuring the entire body is washed.
