A Divine Commandment
The recitation of Durood Shareef (sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad, PBUH) is a unique act of worship. In the Holy Quran (33:56), Allah explicitly states that He and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet, and He commands the believers to do the same. It is a profound honor to participate in an act that Allah Himself performs.
Multiplying Blessings
The rewards for reciting Durood are immense. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times, erase ten of his sins, and elevate his status by ten degrees." (Sunan an-Nasa'i). It is one of the most efficient ways to accumulate good deeds and seek forgiveness.
Removal of Anxieties
When the companion Ubayy bin Ka'b (RA) asked the Prophet (PBUH) what would happen if he dedicated all of his supplication time entirely to sending Durood, the Prophet replied: "Then your anxieties will be taken care of, and your sins will be forgiven." (Tirmidhi). Durood is a spiritual remedy for modern-day stress and depression.
Acceptance of Du'a
A supplication (Du'a) remains suspended between the heavens and the earth until the supplicant sends blessings upon the Prophet (PBUH). Starting and ending your personal prayers with Durood Shareef is the key to having your Du'as accepted by Allah.
